Country: USA

Genre: Cult, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Thriller

IMDb

Synopsis

Ben and Marian Rolf rent an isolated mansion for their summer vacation, and move in with their 12-year-old son Davey (Lee Montgomery) and Ben's aunt Elizabeth. The Allardyce siblings, Arnold and Roz, who own the house, assure them that, despite its size and slightly shabby appearance, looking after the house will be no trouble - in fact, it really takes care of itself. And you should see how wonderful the house is in the summer - oh, in the summer the house really COMES ALIVE...

Notes

  • Based on the 1973 novel of the same name by American writer Robert Marasco (1936-1998)
  • Winner of several awards, including the 1977 award for 'Best Horror Film' from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA
  • The filming for this production took place in August 1975 (so Lee Montgomery would have been 13 years old). The mansion where the film was shot, with its neoclassical architectural style, was in fact Dunsmuir House, located in Oakland, California. This was the first production to be filmed at this location, but Dunsmuir House has since been used several times as a filming location - for example, it featured in the 1985 James Bond movie "A View to a Kill".
