Synopsis

In the mid-1980s, the inhabitants around Kansas City, Missouri continue their seemingly idyllic daily lives largely oblivious to events in faraway Germany where the superpowers are coming into conflict. The population is largely unprepared when they witness US missiles being launched from their underground silos, and realise that they have at most a few minutes before a Soviet nuclear strike...

This was at that point in the 1980's one of only a few movies that where there. I had nightmares for weeks after seeing this movie.

Worthy and well-intentioned, if sanitised, depiction of nuclear holocaust, the film is too much like a glossy, Hollywood-style 'disaster movie', with stagey, stylised and prettified scenes. It really suffers in comparison with the British movie "Threads" (1984), which completely blows this film out of the water.
