Synopsis

The Gang are living in the aptly named Bleak Hill boarding school where, for breakfast, they are fed unappetizing 'mush' (cornmeal boiled in water until it forms a thick, glutinous mass). The headmistress constantly punishes and scolds them, but her husband, Cap, who is also their schoolmaster, is a kindly man, loved by all the children, who promises them that their lives will change when his pension money comes through. When he takes the morning's first class, it turns into an impromtu talent show, before he receives a call telling him that his back pension money has finally been paid. Ecstatic, he decides to treat the children to a meal in a fancy French restaurant. Unfortunately, he doesn't really know what he's ordering from the menu, and the first course to be served up proves only too familiar!

• The 123rd 'Our Gang' to be released
• During the classroom scene, Tommy Bond sings a version of the song "Just Friends". This song, which had been written in 1931, became a big hit in 1932. It has since been recorded many times, but it is, perhaps, fair to say that Tommy Bond's rendition in this film is the definitive version.
